The Chevy Colorado GM’s mid-size truck returned to the scene as the all new model for the 2015 model year together with its near twin GMC Canyon. What’s new in 2017 Colorado?

The Chevy Colorado continues with serious upgrading for each year and while for the current model year it got a new diesel engine for the upcoming it will gain a new 3.6 liter LGZ V-6 which replaces old V-6 version. New engine will be accompanied with a new eight-speed automatic transmission and its power output is 308 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. Other changes include some color option changes and equipment juggling.

If you have fuel efficiency and towing in your list of priorities among three powertrain options that Chevy Colorado offers you will surely find a Duramax diesel as the best solution. This turbocharged 2.8 liter four-cylinder engine can produce 181 hp at 3, 400 rpm but what makes things different is a torque of 369 pound-feet that is available at just 2, 000 rpm.

The Duramax diesel engine is optional on the LT and Z71 crew cab versions and it comes standard with a six-speed automatic transmission and also standard with this engine is a trailing package which has integrated trailer brake controller and selectable exhaust brake.

The 2017 Chevy Colorado Diesel can be had with either two- or all-wheel-drive. Peak towing rating with this engine is 7, 000 pounds and configuration with rear-wheel drive returns fuel economy of 22 mpg city, 31 mpg highway or 25 mpg combined.

Driving impression:

The diesel engine can handle towing jobs easier but it is also smooth and strong performer while pulling trailer on the highways. On the other hand while driving on regular basis this engine has also more relaxed character and with plenty of available torque you must not downshift as often at low speeds. As for the design of the new Colorado, there won’t be substantial changes. The model will introduce new color options Graphite Metallic, Cajun Red Tintcoat, Laser Blue, and Orange Burst Metallic. An 18-inch Dark Metallic wheels will also be added. It has also been reported that Midnight Edition and Z71 Trail Boss versions will be joined with the Shoreline edition.

Trims, features:

As we mentioned, it isn’t official yet but 2017 Chevy Colorado Diesel should continue to be offered as the LT and Z71 crew cab version and with two bed lengths.

The LT trim sits bellow top Z71 and it includes all from lower trims with some upgrades. It comes with 17-inch alloys, tilt and telescopic steering wheel with leather upholstery, illuminated mirrors, cruise control, etc. It also benefits from upgraded MyLink infotainment system which comes with 8-inch screen, voice controls, smartphone compatibility, satellite radio, etc. This version can be upgraded with some packages which add features like heated front seats, automatic climate control, some unique styling elements and also frontal collision warning and lane departure warning.

The Z71 version builds upon with unique LED DRLs, unique wheels, all terrain tires, unique upholstery, navigation, seven-speaker Bose sound system, etc. It also features some additional off-road equipment like hill descant control, locking rear differential, off-road tuned suspension, etc.

2017 Chevy Colorado Diesel and other versions of this model are expected by the end of this year. As for the price, diesel version should stay close to the current price range while new V-6 engine will bring price increase for about $1000.
