The GMC Canyon is more handsome twin of the GM’s mid-size truck duo and it offers qualities that are hard to beat. Attractive and well-equipped it also handles and rides well and you can also choose between strong and efficient powertains. There are also equipment groups and additional packages that allow you to customize your ute according to your needs. However, all that applies to the current version but for an upcoming model year GMC expands the offer to the next level with new trims, engine and features and among them is new 2017 GMC Canyon All Terrain X.
New for 2017:
On the current trim linup the new Canyon adds luxurious Denali trim and new off-road focused package is All Terrain X. But the list of upgrades doesn’t stop there because new Canyon also brings new V-6 engine, new automatic transmission and with them better performance.
2017 GMC Canyon All Terrain X: Model Specifics
Every good truck maker tends to offer wide range of available configurations which include posh version but off-road oriented versions are also in focus. The Canyon already has All Terrain package in offer but the new 2017 GMC Canyon All Terrain X builds on it.
What actually makes this new version different from the current All Terrain package are not more than two things Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac all-terrain tires sized at 255/65R17 and all-weather floor liners. The model also benefits from features like off-road tuned suspension, transfer case protection, rear locking differential, spray-on bedliner, hill descant control, etc.
From what eye can see, it includes grille with body-painted surround, body-colored bumpers, a 17-inch wheels, three-inch step bars while body sculpting and other features are like on the conventional versions.
On inside it also includes some unique trim highlights which are seats with red-accented stitching and All Terrain logo, and that are also heated.
Availability of this package:
The new All Terrain X package will only be available on the SLE trim and with four-wheel drive. Engine choices will include new V-6 and Duramax diesel. So it also covers features from the SLE equipment group which in addition to mentioned are heated front seats with four-way power passenger seat, power front lumbar, an 8-inch IntelliLink infotainment platform, smartphone compatibility, voice commands, HD and satellite radio, WiFi hotspot and more. The Convenience package also brings sliding rear window, remote ignition and automatic climate control.
2017 GMC Canyon All Terrain X: Engine options
As we mentioned earlier, 2017 GMC Canyon All Terrain X will be powered with either new V-6 engine or Duramax diesel burner.
The first is also added on the Chevy’s Colorado portfolio and it features upgraded direct fuel injection, variable valve timing, and cylinder deactivation system. This 3.6 liter V-6 engine can develop 308 hp and peak torque of 275 lb-ft. A new Hydra Matic 8L45 automatic transmission with eight gears is bolted to new engine and this combination can tow up to 7, 000 pounds.
Option is unchanged 2.8 liter Duramax turbodiesel with its output of 181 hp and torque that reaches peak of 369 lb-ft. With this powerplant max towing is at 7, 700 pounds.
2017 GMC Canyon All Terrain X: Arrival, Price
The new 2017 GMC Canyon All Terrain X with other Canyon’s options will be available by the end of this year. For the EPA specs and price we have to wait for the official announcement.
