2017 SsangYong Musso is a new version of the one-ton pickup truck which comes to the scene updated and with the new name. Korean automaker resurrected the Musso name which was used for the mid-size Daewoo Musso SUV back in 90’s and applied this nameplate to the new versions of its truck previously known as the SsangYong Korando Sports. The new truck is more than just an update of the previous version and let’s see what Korean rhinoceros (‘Musso’ means rhinoceros in Korean) has to offer.
With the new naming convention, the new SsangYong Musso also bring more important changes. The new truck sports revised front end styling and the interior gets reworked dashboard compared to the Korando Sports model. What is more important, it also gets a new diesel engine and automatic transmission.
2017 SsangYong Musso: Design, Styling
From the visual perspective, the new 2017 SsangYong Musso doesn’t stray far from the previous Korando Sports model. It again comes in double-cab body style and with strong body lines.
On the other hand, the grille of this model features updated styling which uses a new mesh insert and top and bottom sides have the chrome finish.
The model also gets new wheel designs. The standard wheels are 18-inch silver alloys with the five-spoke design. Higher-spec versions ride also on the 18-inch wheels but they feature the black finish and 10-spoke design.
This unique truck also has sculpted front bumper and chiseled character line. It also offers automatic headlights, LED DRL’s, rain sensing wipers, matte-black underbody protection, and bad which can load Euro-spec pallet.
Inside, the new Musso has also been upgraded. The model gets revised dashboard with the interesting asymmetrical design of the center stack which holds most of the buttons on the driver’s side.
The model also boasts upgraded upholstery and even base models comes with artificial leather trim. The things are better in higher-spec versions which will in include full-leather upholstery as well as automatic climate control, power driver’s seat, heated front seats, a 7-inch touch-screen interface, etc.
2017 SsangYong Musso: Powertrain
The new 2017 SsangYong Musso goes with deeper upgrades than just with the new name, styling and interior. It gets the new Euro 6 compliant 2.2-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine. The new engine is more powerful and can produce 175 horsepower. The peak torque is at 295 pound-feet (400 Nm). The maximum power is available at 4, 000 rpm while the torque at 1,400- 2,800 rpm.
The model also gets a new six-speed automatic transmission and available is a manual gearbox as well.
With manual shifter, the new Musso promises 40 mpg combined. The new six-speed automatic should return competitive 37 mpg combined.
On the towing front, the Musso allows up to 3, 000kg while its payload maximum is 1, 075 kg.

The new 2017 SsangYong Musso has already been on sale. The base SE version is available from £15,995. The top SE trim with the manual transmission costs £17, 995 while with automatic gearbox it goes for £18, 995.
