If you need the truck which abilities surpass those on of the light-duty versions you shouldn’t only consider Ford’s recently redesigned Super Duty Series as Chevy’s Silverado 2500/3500HD models have the confidence and capability which can compete with the best truck brand. Despite, we don’t expect and see enough evidence so far that GM will reinvent HD models or add significant upgrades you shouldn’t lose the focus from the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 / 3500 HD models.
What could be new?
As the thing now stand, Chevy won’t make big changes on its heavy-duty models as it has done an important job for the 2017 model year. With the redesigned Duramax turbodiesel, new air intake system and digital steering feature, the heavy-duty duo can soldier for several model years with mild upgrades. Before, a more substantial upgrade, we should expect new trim packages and feature upgrades which will keep the things interesting and up-to-date.
2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 / 3500 HD: Design
The 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 / 3500 HD models will not change the current design approach. We expect to see the all-new Silverado 1500 for the 2019 model year and HD models will likely follow a year or two after. Before the full redesign, these models will continue with minor modifications on its exterior design. A new exterior theme and some tweaks on models’ front fascia combined with new color options and wheel designs will keep the things fresh.
Inside the cabin, Chevy’s HD models will feature impressive material and assembly quality. The bright side of these models will also be passenger comfort and well-sized and arranged controls. Configurable instrument panel will display important information and great MyLink infotainment system will keep you connected.
All models will have enormous headroom while the crew cabs will, of course, be the most comfortable. The seats will provide long-ride body support and luxury aids will be available for the upgraded comfort.
The broad range of configurations will give you chance to get the truck according to your needs. Three cab styles and two bed lengths will come in the combination with four trim levels. The base Work Trucks will provide basics for the work-oriented buyers. The LT versions will add next level of comfort while the LTZ will bring leather upholstery and automatic climate control. The range-topping High Country will get upscale features like ventilated seats, navigation, etc.
The 3500 HD models will be available with the dual rear wheels.
2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 / 3500 HD: Powertrains
The familiar Vortec 6.0-liter V-8 engine should again be the standard engine on the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 / 3500 HD models. The power and torque numbers this engine can provide will be around 360 hp and 380 lb-ft respectively. The engine will come in the combination with the six-speed automatic transmission.
For the world-class grunt, the redesigned 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel V-8 will get the fresh and dry air through the new cooling system which includes an attractive hood scoop. With the 445 hp of produced power, this engine beats Ford’s turbodiesel engine. However, Ford is still the torque leader with 925 lb-ft vs Chevy’s 910 lb-ft of twisting. This engine will send the power via the more capable Allison 1000 6-speed automatic transmission.
The rear- and all-wheel drive will be available. The dual rear wheel setup will be an option on the 3500hd version. The 2500HD model will tow up to 18, 100 lbs. But the towing limit of the 3500HD will be around 23, 300 lbs.
