While we are still exploring the latest 2017 F-150 it seems that Ford is testing new version of it’s the best-selling vehicle. Despite it is relatively new model with revolutionary redesign in 2015 and notable upgrades for the 2017 model, the testing vehicle spotted with camouflaged front and rear fascia proves that Ford is planning new changes. It’s not hard to guess that the new 2018 Ford F-150 Diesel is undergoing a facelift but some details promise even more.
So, a facelift is happening and Ford wants to keep things fresh. A year after it added upgraded EcoBoost engine, a new ten-speed transmission and Raptor version there will be more. The 2018 brings changes in styling that every facelift implies but possible diesel engine certainly steals the show. The green diesel fuel cap and the placard with diesel fuel only lettering on the dash proves that Ford is going up against Ram’s EcoDiesel engine.
2018 Ford F-150 Diesel: Diesel Engine, Gasoline options
So, what the new 2018 Ford F-150 Diesel has to face up to the Ram’s EcoDiesel engine.
Well, according to some reports, caught prototype model exploits a 3.0 liter turbo diesel V-6 engine from the Land Rover Td6 model. In that application, the engine produces 254 hp and torque of 440 lb-ft. Compared to Ram’s EcoDiesel it is 14 hp more and 20 lb-ft more torque. But Ford might tune this engine differently. We also expect to challenge Ram’s mileage which in the best configuration is 29 mpg highway.
On the other hand, gasoline lineup should include same engines. The base naturally aspirated 3.5 liter V-6 produces 282 hp. Another naturally aspirated 5.0 liter V-8 produces 385 hp but it might see some improvements.
Turbocharged duo includes a 2.7 liter V-6 with ability of 325 hp. And at the top of line is a 3.5 liter turbocharged V-6 with output of 375 hp and torque of 470 lb-ft.
Expect also that for 2018 model year the new 10-speed transmission will come with expanded availability.
2018 Ford F-150 Diesel: Refreshed Styling
When it comes to the styling, we don’t know exactly what 2018 Ford F-150 Diesel hides behead the camouflage. It is obvious that the most of changes will be on the front and rear fascias.
Some sources suggest bolder, more muscular front similar to the Super Duty design. New headlights should mimic the units from the Super-Duty series. There will be prominent LED accent lights and some sheetmetal tweaks as well. The grille will likely get some different look and probably more chrome.
Other changes should include new taillights, color options and new wheel designs.
Inside we expect changes in details. There could be some new theme and trim details. Incremental upgrades on the infotainment system and revised safety equipment are also expected.
2018 Ford F-150 Diesel: Arrival, Price
The 2018 Ford F-150 Diesel might come in late 2017 or the first half of 2018. The production should start in the last quarter of the next year at the Louisville plant. Expect price to increase but not much.
