The story that Ford F-150 is the best-selling vehicle in the US is more than three decades old but Blue Oval brand doesn’t intend to lose this position for a long time. It has proven with 2015 year redesign how serious it could be and the result is the most revolutionary upgrade in truck industry. But it appears that all new aluminum bodied truck wasn’t enough and Ford introduced the second generation of the high-performance version Ford Raptor for 2017 model year. This off-road ready version will use 3.5 liter twin-turbo V-6 which is expected to reach 450 hp.
What is interesting the latest reports suggests that new 2017 F-150 will also use this engine version which will deliver around 365 hp as the current version which it replaces but it will increase torque to 450 lb-ft. What is more it will be paired with all new ten-speed automatic transmission. So, what is left for the 2018 Ford F-150? According to unofficial reports the 2018 model is reserved for mid-cycle update and everything what it brings. So, we should see refreshed exterior and interior and what has also been rumored it might add a diesel engine option.
2018 Ford F-150: Powertrains
The 2018 Ford F-150 might be diesel powered. It sounds interesting and maybe hard to believe but according to some reports the testing model which was spotted has the sticker and sounds like it is powered with diesel engine. The rumor also claims that it will be a 3.0 liter displacement which might be sourced from Jaguar Land Rover but it won’t be a 3.2 liter diesel from the Transit as it had been rumored before. While time would judge about diesel engine, the pair of the EcoBoost engines will more likely be in offer. The current 2.7 liter V-6 which produces 325 hp and 375 lb-ft of torque might become the base engine instead of the naturally aspirated V-6. The second turbocharged option will be mentioned 3, 5 bi-turbo V-6 which will be paired with a 10-speed auto transmission. A 5.0 liter V-8 might also remain a choice and with 2.7 liter EcoBoost it will probably use different transmissions.
