Since the reintroduction of the mid-size twins, the GMC Canyon and Chevy Colorado, this segment of pickup trucks has exploded in the US market. Ford has recently been caught testing the prototype of the Ford Ranger on roads in the US and based on the latest reports this model will hit this market as the 2019 model. The prototype seems to share a lot with its global version including the platform and styling while it should add to engine range with EcoBoost engines and possibly with the new transmission system. The global Ranger version is also expected to follow the US-spec model with improvements for the 2019 model while the current lineup including the upcoming up-spec 2018 Ford Ranger Wildtrak will receive some minor updates.
2018 Ford Ranger Wildtrak: Design
The new 2018 Ford Ranger Wildtrak will not get any substantial change in its exterior and interior. The US-spec version is expected to be based on the current global version platform and its styling won’t also be a large departure from the current design language. The Wiladtrak version will likely be available there but the Raptor version is also in the cards.
Considering that, we shouldn’t also see any radical changes in the upcoming Wildtrak version in terms of styling and its structure. The model will feature unique dark gray trapezoidal grille and specific front bumper. The available 18-inch alloy wheels, body colored mirror caps, side steps, and other details will make the distinction to other models. The model will also be available with unique color options including Pride Orange, Aluminum Metallic, Cool White, black Mica and Metropolitan Grey.
Cabin and Features:
Inside the cabin, the buyers will enjoy in high-level comfort, attractive styling and modern tech and convenience features. The broad and supportive seats are also the reason why the owners would like to be inside. They they will feature unique leather upholstery complemented with the orange stitching and inserts. The Wildtrak will come in dual-cub form only and rear passenger will also get good treatment.
As for the tech features, the Sync3 infotainment system will be managed through the 8-inch center screen. The model will also have digital information display. The availability of features like the dual-zone climate control, power and heated front seats, satellite navigation, power windows and more will also get the attention.
The Wiladtrak will also benefit from some active driver and safety aids. Available will be adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, parking sensors, etc.
2018 Ford Ranger Wildtrak: Powertrain
For the 2019 model year, the Ranger model should get a broader range of engine options for the US market. It will likely in some extent be available for the global market as well. The 2019 version should gain the EcoBoost engine or two. A 3.0-liter Power Stroke V-6 diesel from the newest F-150 could also be on the offer. In the combination with the EcoBoost engine should also come a 10-speed automatic transmission.
However, the 2018 Ford Ranger Wildtrak will likely continue with the 3.2-liter five-cylinder diesel engine. This engine will produce around 197 hp(147kW) and torque of 470 Nm will be reachable from 1750 to 2500 rpm. The Ranger truck will rely on the six-speed automatic for the smooth drive experience. The drivers will also like its responsive electric power steering.
2018 Ford Ranger Wildtrak: Arrival, Price
The US-spec Ranger will debut sometime in 2018 probably in the second half of the year. On the other hand, the 2018 Ford Ranger Wildtrak should arrive on global markets late this year or early 2018. The price will be around the current version value.
