The Ford Ranger is mid-size pickup truck that Blue Oval Brand delivers in many markets outside the US. Since its departure from the US back in 2012 the things have changed in mid-size class and growing demand for these more compact versions will likely inspire Ford to return this truck stateside. The US-specs version is reported to come as the 2018 Ford Ranger model and with certain modifications according to new market requirements.
What can be expected?
There are no official reports about US-specs Ranger version but some assumptions have been made. The global version of this truck has been facelifted for the last model year and with improved powertrain, styling, interior and equipment it is ready on all fronts. However, the 2017 model will also bring some improvements like new Sync 3 infotainment system, reduced emissions, etc. All that have made this model to be up to date in all aspects in global market but for US version some changes are expected. Some minor changes are expected in its styling; upgraded interior and revised powertrain lineup will also be adapted for US market.
2018 Ford Ranger: Styling
The styling isn’t the major selling point of trucks but it certainly has its value in that regard. In that context, the 2018 Ford Ranger for the US market is expected to features distinctive deign compared with full-size F-series. That makes the current global version which is a handsome pickup truck adequate to enter in new market with minor visual modifications.
So, the font look will likely continue with minor changes except that Ford will surely offer distinctive grille and headlights designs for upper trim levels. The profile and body sculpting will also continue in very similar form and the same case is with its rear side.
The model will be offered in three cab styles including regular, extended and crew cab versions while it will also come with wheel options that range from 17-inch to 19-inches.
Inside, the US-specs version will undergo some market specific modifications and other expected changes. It will likely keep most of the current design which is clean and uncluttered but some improvements will be made.
It will of course get the latest Sync infotainment system which will provide smartphone integration, voice commands, navigation, satellite and HD radio, etc. The lower grades will use vinyl upholstery while attractive trim accents alongside with leather covered surfaces will be available in higher-spec models.
In terms of safety, the model is already equipped with advanced systems like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure warring, etc but additions of more advanced aids is also expected.
2018 Ford Ranger: Possible Engine options
In engine department, the 2018 Ford Ranger is expected to introduce some revisions. There is no official information about engine options but some reports have offered some suggestions.
According to them, it has been believed that currently used 3.2 liter five-cylinder turbo diesel will be available in upgraded form in the US-spec Ranger. The current version can produce 185 hp and torque of 350 pound-feet.
Another engine option is expected to be borrowed from the F-150 and that is a 2.7 liter EcoBoost V-6 which can deliver 325 hp and 375 pound-feet of torque. It can also be expected that a four-cylinder gasoline engine would be offered as well.
On the other hand, a six-speed manual gearbox will likely be available in lower trims with base engine while a six-speed automatic be there for other versions. There will also be dilemma between two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive models.
2018 Ford Ranger: Release date, Price
Expectations are that 2018 Ford Ranger will come in late 2017. As for the price, it is hard to predict all possible changes on the market but the Regular cab models could be available from $21, 000.
