There are many reasons why you should pick the mid-size pickup truck instead of the full-size versions especially when you don’t need the full towing capability of the half-ton ute. These trucks with mid-size proportions still provide plenty of towing capability but are also easier to maneuver and park while they also have better handling and riding manners. They also come in many configuration options and if you want the best example of this kind of truck one of GM’s two mid-sizers should be your choice. The GMC Canyon is somewhat more stylish than its corporate cousin and there is also a super luxury Denali trim. But if you want the best of the fuel economy and torque the new 2018 GMC Canyon Diesel will be the right choice.
New for 2018:
GM has incrementally upgraded the Canyon since its redesign in 2015. The 2016 model has brought the diesel engine and upgraded infotainment system. More of upgrades came for the 2017 model year including the new V-6 engine and 8-speed transmission plus the range-topping Denali trim. For the 2018 model, GMC should make the 8-speed transmission available with the diesel engine and other changes should include sunroof option and new color choices.
2018 GMC Canyon Diesel: Styling
The styling theme of the GMC Canyon is familiar as this truck in many aspects looks as the smaller Sierra. Also, the familiar approach is also obvious on the styling elements and body sculpting of GMC’s SUV models. That won’t also differ much with the new 2018 GMC Canyon Diesel model as big changes are not expected regarding model’s styling. The new model should introduce new color options and possibly some tweaks around the grille and lighting clusters.
It will again make the distinction between the trims with the specific grilles and wheel designs. The Denali trim will stand out with this version signature grille and more brightwork.
Inside the Canyon cabin, the design will also be similar to Sierra’s interior theme. The model will provide high-level of comfort comparable with the SUVs and cabin will also be well-insulated from the exterior noise. Well-padded front seats will also ensure long ride comfort while the rear seats in the crew cab models will provide enough space to adult passengers.
The Canyon trucks will also get the latest Intellilink infotainment features while available trims and additional packages will satisfy all demands regarding the customization.
This model will be available in extended and crew cab styles including two bed lengths. The trim range will include the SL, Base, SLE, SLT and top Denali. However, the diesel engine will be available starting from the SLE version.
2018 GMC Canyon Diesel: Powertrain
The power and high torque for the new 2018 GMC Canyon Diesel will available from the 2.8-liter four-cylinder Duramax engine. GM added this engine to model’s offer for the 2016 model year. This capable four-cylinder unit can produce 181 hp and what’s more important around 369 lb-ft of torque. So far, the GMC paired this engine with six-speed automatic transmission. However, for the new model year this engine may be adopted with the 8-speed automation transmission as well. That could mean better torque and fuel economy. But we would know that when GM reveals all details about this model.
In the current form, the Canyon with the Duramax diesel engine and six-speed gearbox returns up to 25 mpg combined. On the other hand, it is towing champ among other engine options with the maximum of 7, 700 pounds.
2018 GMC Canyon Diesel: Arrival, Price
The release date of the new 2018 GMC Canyon Diesel should be by the end of this year. The price range won’t change much.
