For the 2016 model year, Mitsubishi replaced the decade-old Triton with the fifth-generation model. This truck is available globally and in some markets, you will find it as the Mitsubishi L-200. Rebadged as the Ram 1200 this truck is also available for the buyers in the Middle East. In the same market and on the Old continent, another variation of this truck comes as the Fiat Fullback. However, if you want the freshest version of this truck, it will arrive as the 2018 Mitsubishi Triton soon.
New for 2018:
The newest generation of the Triton is engineered to deliver power and efficiency either when towing or driving it in the town. However, in the same package, this truck offers top safety scores while more expensive versions come with the modern tech and convenience integration.
As for the upcoming version, Mitsubishi will introduce some updates to the equipment groups while other aspects will continue with minor or none modifications. Mitsubishi’s trucks have a long life cycle and mid-life update is expected in the next two years.
2018 Mitsubishi Triton: Design
From the visual perspective, the last generation of the Triton is the story itself and you won’t mistake this truck for something else in any situation. The front end of this model features unique grille and headlights design which is Mitsubishi specific but if you see it from the behind the massive rear overhang will tell you its identity without of looking on the tailgate-mounted badge.
Mitsubishi planted the newest generation of this truck on its improved fourth-generation platform alongside with the new suspension. The company also claims that this version is in the top end in terms of aerodynamic efficiency thanks to carefully designed lines and shape.
So, in terms of the exterior styling, the model is the fresh design and Mitsubishi won’t change much on it. It should offer new color options and wheel design. The special edition version is also possible.
Behind the wheel, 2018 Mitsubishi Triton will be quiet and refined thanks to the new-generation improvements. Mitsubishi improved sound insulation and seat comfort as well while also providing a good visibility.
For the new model year, this model could improve material quality in some areas and should also update tech and safety features.
It will be available in three cab styles including the cab-chassis models. All double-cab models will have the touch-screen interface and rearview camera. Tilt-and-reach steering wheel, cruise control, electronic stability control, trailer sway control, hill-start control will also be available on all Tritons.
Upgraded upholstery and infotainment system, heated and power front seats, dual-zone climate control, unique exterior and interior accents and much more will be available in the upper grades.
2018 Mitsubishi Triton: Powertrains
Powering most of the 2018 Mitsubishi Triton models will be a 2.4-liter DOHC MIVEC diesel engine. This modern design engine has an aluminum cylinder block and it is among the most efficient and quietest diesel engines. The power it can deliver is around 178 hp(133kW) and torque is 430 Nm.
In some lower-spec versions, this truck will have a 2.4-liter four-cylinder petrol engine. There a five-speed manual transmission will also be on the offer while the diesel-powered models will come with either six-speed manual or five-speed automatic gearbox. The two-wheel drive system will be available with single cab models. Larger cabin models will come with the Easy Select 4WD or with the more advanced Super Select 4WD II.
