We saw more conservative-styled, lighter, bigger, more efficient and smarter Ram 1500 which debuted at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show. However, buyers needing greater towing and hauling capabilities are turned toward more capable, heavy-duty Rams and also expecting the redesign of these models soon. Unfortunately, the 2019 Ram 3500 and smaller 2500 won’t bring the redesign to the game and we have to wait until 2020 model year to see reworked heavy-duty Rams. Ram is already testing new-generation heavy-sizers and prototype was spotted covered in the thick camo. Obviously, the model is in the early stage of the development and we don’t expect redesigned versions until 2020.
In the meantime, we will get the upcoming Ram 3500 with some changes in equipment range and possibly new package versions. The 2018 Ram 3500 brought a Limited Tungsten Edition version, sport appearance package, upgraded infotainment features, etc. The 2019 version will largely be carryover.
2019 Ram 3500: Design
The 2019 Ram 3500 will return with the familiar, macho appearance and well-known, crosshair face. The grille finish will vary depending on the trim option and other styling elements will also get a unique treatment for each version as it is the case with the current version.
On the other hand, the new-generation, heavy-duty Rams will likely adopt more conservative styling drawn from the redesigned Ram 1500.
The most capable Ram pickup truck will have modern cabins with easy-to-use controls and great Uconnect system. The quality of materials and other features will depend on the trim option and the truck will come with six trim options. Buyers will choose between Tradesman, SLT, Big Horn, Laramie, Laramie, Longhorn, and Limited.
There will also be three cab styles and two bed lengths. The model will add modern safety systems for the new generation version while the upcoming version will continue with the current safety equipment.
2019 Ram 3500: Powertrains
The most capable of Rams will return with the familiar engine options. The base 2019 Ram 3500 will pack a 5.7-liter V-8 engine combined with the six-speed automatic gearbox. The engine produces 383 hp and torque of 400 lb-ft.
A more power will be available form the 6.4-liter V-8 engine which also uses a six-speed automatic transmission. This unit delivers 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque.
The one with the most torque will be the 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel I6. This engine depending on the transmission version will come in three options. With manual six-speed unit, it will produce 350 hp and torque of 660 lb-ft. When paired with the six-speed auto gearbox, it will make 370 hp and 800 lb-ft of torque. The heavy-duty six-speed automatic will upgrade power to 385 hp and torque to impressive 930 lb-ft.
All powertrains will be available with the four-wheel drive and dual-rear-wheel setup. The off-road armed version will also be available.
2019 Ram 3500: Release, Price
The 2019 Ram 3500 will reach dealers in the later phase of 2018. Expect the price range to start again at around $34k.
