These days any good pickup truck offers a diversity of styles and capability options and the newest, fourth-generation Chevy Silverado 1500 introduced for the 2019 model year is no exception. The half-ton Silverado can get a form of the work-oriented machine or transform to the high-dollar truck. Somewhere in the middle, buyers can get the off-road versions including Custom Trail Boss and more sophisticated LT Trail Boss. Both off-road oriented models come with standard four-wheel drive and Z71 package while latter adds more refinement and options including more powerful powertrains.
For the new model year Chevy brings several significant new options and 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss will also benefit from the extended equipment range and newly available options. The model will add a 6.2-liter V-8 engine in the equipment list. The 2019 version was only available with the 5.3-liter V-8 which gains a 10-speed automatic transmission for the new model year. The 2020 Silverado 1500 will also get a 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel engine but it will skip the LT Trail Boss trim and be available in LT, RST, LTZ and High Country grades. Chevy also introduces new Trailering system with up to 15 cameras and adaptive cruise control for the new model year.
2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss: Design
The changes for the 2020 model year will be limited to the new engine option and 10-speed automatic transmission as well as expanded equipment range. The 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss will, however, stay familiar from the visual perspective.
The LT Trail Boss version will use black-finish grille and special 18-inch back wheels. There will be more detail distinguishing this version such as red tow hooks, black bumpers, Z71 badges, LED headlights and more.
The interior of the recently all-new Chevy Silverado prioritizes function over form. The model has logically arranged controls and simple center stack. The comfort in the front and rear seating rows is also generous.
As for the LT Trail Boss version, the model will use cloth upholstery by default combined with the leather-wrapped steering wheel, carpet flooring and all-weather floor liners signed with the Z71 logos. Other standard features will include keyless entry and start, rear window defogger, power windows and locks.
The model will also be well-connected as it comes with Chevy’s new infotainment platform with an 8-inch center screen, Wi-Fi, six speakers, driver information display and more.
Buyers can spend extra money to add options such as dual-zone automatic climate control, 10-way power adjustable driver seat, leather treated seats, premium Bose sound system, heated steering wheel, etc.
For the safety purposes, the LT Trail Boss will rely on lane change warning, blind spot-detection with rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, etc. The off-road-ready LT Trail Boss skips lane departure warning and lane keeping assist in the current version and we will see would they be available for the 2020 model year. The model will also equip the trailering package.
2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss: Powertrains
The big news for the 2020 Silverado 1500 is the adoption of the 3.0-liter inline-6 Duramax turbodiesel engine. The new engine option will make 277 horsepower and torque of 460 pound-feet. Chevy will pair this engine with the 10-speed automatic transmission. The 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss won’t, however, get this option.
The new model year will, however, bring a 6.2-liter V-8 petrol engine in the equipment list of the LT Trail Boss. This unit combined with the 10-speed automatic transmission will motivate the off-road ready Silverado with 420 horsepower and torque of 460 pound-feet.
The standard powering unit of the Silverado LT Trail Boss will remain a 5.3-liter V-8 equipped with Dynamic Fuel Management and combined with 8-speed automatic transmission. Chevy will, however, expand the availability of the 10-speed automatic gearbox to this unit as well.
The half-ton Silverado LT Trail Boss will also install some factory-built, off-road enhancements to improve its all-terrain capability. The model comes with a 2-inch suspension lift and Rancho-branded shocks, two-speed transfer case, locking rear differential, underbody protection and all-terrain tires.
