The battle for the supremacy in the pickup industry continues with the introduction of the redesigned Silverado HD which follow the all-new, light-duty Silverado presented early this year. Chevy revealed several details about the new HD models and shown also a few pictures of the 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD. The new trucks replace the fourth-generation models introduced in 2014 and with the radical changes, Chevy tries to challenge the dominance of the Ford Super Series.
The new Silverado HD has already sparkled the debate about the polarizing new front-end style and the brand revealed also several details about the future powertrain options. Chevy informed also that the new Chevy HD will go on sale in five trims including Work Truck, Custom, LT, LTZ and High Country. The new, base gasoline engine will also appear with the next Silverado HD while the tested-and-proved Duramax diesel will switch to the new model with the same performance. Chevy announced also the new 10-speed transmission system and promised the most capable Silverado HD ever. The truck will also equip the latest tech and safety features and offer the high-end luxuries.
2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD: Design
Chevy released already the teaser image of the Silverado HD and recently shown a new bunch of photos revealing the new design of the HD trucks. What instantly catches the attention is the new polarizing front-end design which distinguishes the heavy-duty model form the recently redesigned half-ton Silverado.
Chevy released the pictures of the LT and High-Country versions. The LT model with the ZT1 package has a new massive, mesh grille with the chrome strip splitting the grille in the two section. The sharp headlights also define the new style and the CHEVROLET stamping on the horizontal strip is also the new detail on the new-generation Silverado HD.
The new trucks have the more conventional profile and rear-end style and Chevy HD added also the new bed steps on the flanks. The profile side comes with the resculpted fenders and rear has the new taillights with the stamped tailgate.
The top-tier High Country version has the chrome, billet style grille with the gold bowtie badge on the horizontal strip. The Silverado High Country gets also the running boards, chrome door handles, attractive multi-spoke wheels, etc.
Chevy hasn’t revealed the full details about the interior of the Silverado HD but the cabins should share the similar design as the light-duty version. The models should have very similar dashboard design while Chevy promises improved comfort. The Crew Cab versions will come with the added 3 inches of the rear seat legroom and higher seating positions.
The truck will also equip the brand’s latest infotainment platform and provide an array of the advanced safety systems. The trims will also offer the unique materials and textures but Chevy will reveal the full specs in 2019.
2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD: Powertrains
Chevy promises the most capable and advanced 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD but hasn’t provided the full specs of the new model.
The new ¾-ton Silverado and the larger 3500 HD version will get the new gasoline unit combined with the six-speed automatic transmission but no details about the number of cylinders, displacement and performance. The new engine could be a 6.6-liter V-8 with the direct injection and power and torque around 400 hp and 450 lb-ft, according to some sources.
On the other hand, the 6.6-liter Duramax diesel will return but with the new Allison 10-speed automatic transmission. The power and torque should remain at the current levels. The Duramax diesel makes up to 445 hp and torque of 910 lb-ft in the current form and with the six-speed automatic transmission.
The new model will also offer the off-road Z71 package and should also improve the towing and loading limits thanks to the structural and powertrain upgrades. The current version can tow up to 18, 100 pounds.
2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD: Arrival, Price
Chevy is yet to disclose the full details about the 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD. We will know closer to the formal debut scheduled for the February 2019. The price is also the mystery but we should expect a slight increase in the price range. The current generation Silverado 2500 HD starts from $33, 960.
