There were several all-new trucks from the Bowtie brand in 2018 and more is yet to come. Chevy started the year with the thoroughly redesigned light-duty Silverado 1500 and a few months after presented the new, medium-duty 4500HD, 5500HD and 6500HD models. It isn’t also the secret that the new-generation of the heavy-duty 2500HD and 3500 HD models will arrive for the 2020 model year.
Chevy already released the teaser image of the front-end design of the new Silverado HD and the 2020 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD was also caught while testing camouflaged. The interior of the model was also in the front of the spy camera. However, important details about the engine options and design are still the mystery and more should appear closer to the year-end. The all-new Chevy HD trucks should debut early next year and go on sale later in the year.
2020 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD: Design
Chevy wasn’t generous with the details of the new generation Silverado HD so far but made clear that the buyers’ needs are the priority. So, Chevy will, of course, prioritize the capability but will also give an attention to details, luxury and new tech.
In that context, the 2020 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD and smaller 2500 HD model should appear in larger proportions and with the bolder design. The lightweight materials will play the role to reduce the weight while the high-tensile steel will improve the structural rigidity and capability. The recipe is similar to what Chevy did on the light-duty model.
On the other hand, the styling of the HD models will come with the new front-end design and Chevy seems also softened the squared-off fender flares.
The teaser image also shows the grille bar with the Chevrolet lettering instead of the Bowtie badge running in the center section of the grille dividing the headlights and lower section. The new LED headlights also look attractive and the hood scoop reveals that the Duramax diesel engine is under the hood. The hood creases also seem more muscular while the profile should come with softer body sculpting according to what we can conclude from the spy photos.
As for the interior design, Chevy will apply the similar cues as on the new light-duty Silverado. The changes in the dimensions should also improve the interior comfort and Chevy will also offer more modern equipment.
The dash design of the new-gen Silverado HD will have the similar center stack as the redesigned light-duty model. The center screen will sit high between the air vents and infotainment controls will be below. In the lower section will be the HAVC controls and an array of buttons. The redesigned HD modes will also get the new instrument cluster and the digital display in the top grades. The steering wheel will also share the design with the half-ton Silverado.
Chevy will also add the new version of the infotainment tech and advanced safety systems. There will also be the luxuries like the leather upholstery, heated and ventilated seats, premium sound system, etc. The off-road upgrades will also be available.
2020 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD: Performance
Chevy will improve the structure and underpinnings of the new generation heavy-duty trucks to provide better capability and efficiency but exact details about the upgrades are still unknown. The brand hasn’t also revealed details about the engine options.
However, Chevy will likely keep the V-8 diesel and petrol engine options and work on their improvement. The six-speed automatic transmission is also in the reports to return. There will also be single and dual-rear-wheel setup for the 2020 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD.
A 6.0-liter Vortec V-8 will likely remain the base engine and in the combination with the 6-speed automatic gearbox. Chevy will surely make improvements on the fuel management technologies and improve performance. The current version makes 360hp and torque of 380 lb-ft.
The 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel will also appear again and with the improved torque for sure. This engine will come with the upgraded six-speed automatic transmission and power and torque numbers will likely go above current 445 hp and 910 lb-ft.
With the structural and performance improvements, the new Silverado 3500 HD will also raise the towing limit but remains to see the exact numbers.
2020 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD: Arrival, Price
Chevy will likely disclose more details about the 2020 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD in early 2019. The model will be produced at Flint, Michigan plant.
With the new technologies and improvements, the price of the new models will also go slightly up.
