The half-ton Chevy Silverado 1500 is completely redesigned for the 2019 model year but it is faced with the all-new Ram 1500 and up-to-date Ford F-150. The Toyota Tundra is also getting closer to the new generation while Silverado’s corporate twin, GMC Sierra is also more refined than ever. The newest Silverado is again available in a variety of options but with the additional engine and package options, there are more possible configurations than ever.
The fourth generation Silverado 1500 can get the form of the work-oriented machine or add high-level of interior sophistication combined with a stylish exterior and long list of comfort and tech features. But the new Chevy can be also armed with the off-road goodies when equipped with the Z71 package. The Z71 package comes as standard equipment on the Custom Trail Boss and LT Trail Boss trims but Chevy offers this option on every other version as well. The 2020 Chevy Silverado Z71 will be able to go almost anywhere thanks to the unique suspension setup, additional protection, off-road tires and upgraded drivetrain. The model will also get unique styling elements and be available with all engine options.
2020 Chevy Silverado Z71: Powertrains
The recently introduced, new generation Chevy Silverado benefits from the improved, lightweight chassis and body but there are also new engine options including turbocharged and diesel units to choose from. However, when the additional off-road capability is needed, the Z71 package can be opted.
With the Z71 package equipped, the Chevy Silverado becomes capable off-roader and that is possible thanks to the list of drivetrain upgrades.
The 2020 Chevy Silverado Z71 will add the Rancho-branded shocks optimized for the ride over harsh terrains. The package will also include a heavy-duty automatic rear locking differential and Autotrac 2-speed transfer case. To go behind the paved roads safely, the truck will also get additional underbody protection while all-terrain tires will also be there to provide better traction. The Z71 version will get unique 18-inch wheels with available 20-inch options. The package will also install recovery hooks and hill descent control.
Multiple engine options:
Buyers will have a chance to get the Z71 package on all trims while Custom Trail Boss and LT Trail Boss version will have this package as the standard equipment.
The base 4.3-liter V-6 engine with active fuel management will be standard on the Work Truck, Custom and Custom Trail Boss. This engine will be paired with the six-speed automatic transmission. The power and torque delivery will be 285 hp and 305 pound-feet respectively.
The first three trims will get a 5.3-liter V-8 with dynamic fuel management as an option while three top trims will come with this engine by default. The engine will be in the mix with the 8-speed automatic transmission. The engine makes 355 hp and torque of 383 pound-feet.
Standard on the LT and RTS trims will be a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine capable of producing 310 hp and 348 pound-feet of torque.
Two top grades, LTZ and High Country will be available with the 6.2-liter V-8 equipped with dynamic fuel management and auto-start technologies. The engines will be in pair with the 10-speed automatic gearbox. This engine can produce 420 hp and torque of 460 pound-feet.
Chevy will also combine a 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-6 unit with the 10-speed automatic transmission and should offer it in the LT trim and above. The turbodiesel makes 277 hp and torque of 460 pound-feet.
2020 Chevy Silverado Z71: Design, Interior
After the recent redesign, Chevy won’t change the look of the light-duty Silverado for the new model year.
The Z71-equipped versions will upgrade the off-road capability but add also some, unique styling details as well. These models will get the Z71 badges and notable will also be skid plates, recovery hooks, all-terrain tires and lifted suspension.
The Z71 details will also appear inside the cabin and models will have a unique graphic on the instrument panel. Buyers will also be able to equip their model with the diverse material quality options, high-comfort features and modern tech. There will be 7- or 8-inch screen options, Wi-Fi, navigation, premium sound system and other tech features. The light-duty Silverado will also offer modern crash-prevention technologies.
2020 Chevy Silverado Z71: Release, Price
The 2020 Chevy Silverado Z71 should be available in mid-$30,000. Chevy hasn’t yet specified the release date but the model should appear in the second part of the year.
