Ford has been a dominating force in the pickup truck industry and F-Series trucks are the best-selling vehicles in this US for years now. Ford presented recently the new generation Super Duty models and the light-duty F-150 is getting closer to the redesign as well. Ford announced also the all-electric F-150 version while F-150 hybrid is an old story. However, Ford hasn’t specified when the all-electric model will appear while hybrid powertrain should come for the 2020 model year. The new generation F-150 is a year or two far from now.
For the 2020 model year, Ford should bring the hybrid powertrain but hasn’t revealed details about it. Ford will also expand the availability of the Power Stroke Diesel unit to lower trims and there will also be some revisions in the equipment organization. The next model year won’t bring visual or structural upgrades.
Buyers will again be available to choose from the long trim range and different body styles plus package options. There will also be a long list of the powertrain options including turbo, non-turbo, diesel and hybrid units. The F-150 will again appear in three body styles and with three cargo bed options. Buyers who don’t need the comfort of the four-door cabin will get the 2020 Ford F-150 Regular Cab in XL and XLT trims. The F-150 Regular Cab will equip all necessities and a bit more. There will also be different powertrain options including turbocharged and V-8 units but Ford won’t offer a diesel engine with the Regular Cab version.
2020 Ford F-150 Regular Cab: Design
The next 2020 Ford F-150 Regular Cab won’t come with notable visual or other upgrades the same will be with the rest of the pinup.
The two-door F-150 version will be available with the standard 6 feet 6 inches cargo bed and long 8 feet option. The trim options will include base XL and XLT.
The F-150 Regular Cab XL will come with automatic headlights and automatic high beams and 17-inch steel wheels. The two-bar style grille will use black finish and bumpers will also have the black color treatment. Ford will allow upgrades of the XL trim with chrome and appearance packages. One can also get FX4 package, skid plates, box side steps, 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, etc. as additional options on the XL trim.
The XLT trim will get the chrome package by default including chrome grille and bumpers. This version will ride on 17-inch aluminum wheels and offer 18- and 20-inch options. Among other options, buyers can also get two-tone paint and running boards for extra money.
Inside the cabin, the F-150 will provide easy-to-use controls and high comfort. There will also be numerous options to bring comfort and convenience to a higher level.
The Regular Cab XL version will use a 4.2-inch center display, driver information display, air conditioning, four speakers, vinyl flooring, etc. There will also be standard safety equipment like forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and a rearview camera. The XL version can upgrade with cloth upholstery, power windows and locks, SYNC infotainment system with a large center display, etc.
The two-door F-150 with XLT badge will include cloth upholstery, Wi-fi, SYNC 3 infotainment system with an 8-inch center display, more USBs, etc. With more money spent, this version can add a leather-wrapped steering wheel, navigation, heated seats, power pedals and more. There will also be additional safety equipment like blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
2020 Ford F-150 Regular Cab: Powertrains
Based on what we know so far, the 2020 Ford F-150 Regular Cab won’t allow Power Stroke Diesel engine or Hybrid unit if it appears.
The base unit will be a 3.3-liter V-6 equipped with start-stop technology and six-speed automatic transmission. This engine will deliver 290 hp and 265 pound-feet of torque.
For more money, buyers can switch to the 2.7-liter turbocharged V-6 EcoBoost engine. This engine will be in the combination with the 10-speed automatic transmission. The power it delivers is 325 hp and torque 400 pound-feet.
A naturally-aspirated 5.7-liter V-8 engine combined with the 10-speed automatic transmission and equipped with fuel-saving technologies will be another option. This engine makes 395 hp and torque of 400 pound-feet.
2020 Ford F-150 Regular Cab: Release, Price
The 2020 Ford F-150 Regular Cab will go on sale by the end of the year. Ford should keep the price close to current and the base version should cost below $30, 000. The Regular Cab XLT should start around $34, 000.
