After the major refresh for the 2018 model year and the introduction of the long-waiting diesel powertrain, the best-selling F-150 made also some meddling in the equipment range for the 2019 version. The owners of the Limited version will get Raptor’s high-performance 3.5-liter twin turbo V-6 while the Raptor gains the forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking.
However, despite being available with the numerous powertrain options and hard-to-count customization options, Ford has more in prospect to come with the 2020 Ford F-150 version. Ford promised the hybrid powertrain for the Mustang and the light-duty truck and the new option is expected in 2020. Ford revealed the location where the hybrid will be produced. It will be the Dearborn truck plant in Michigan. Unfortunately, Ford didn’t say more details about the electrified powertrain but it should use the similar setup as the upcoming Mustang hybrid.
As for the other upgrades, there shouldn’t be many. Expect again some changes in the equipment organization and more high-trim features available in lower grades. New color options and more accessible safety gear should also be the part of the 2020 version.
2020 Ford F-150: Powertrains
The 2020 Ford F-150 will again offer the diesel, turbocharged and naturally aspirated engine options. The six- and ten-speed automatic and rear- and all-wheel drive will also be in the list but Ford will also add the hybrid option for the new model year.
The base engine will remain a 3.3-liter V-6 non-turbo engine introduced with the 2018 refresh. The engine makes 290 hp and torque of 265 lb-ft in the combination with the six-speed automatic gearbox. This engine also exploits the direct injection for better fuel efficiency.
The most buyers will likely continue to demand a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6. The engine provides 325 hp combined with the strong low-end torque and max 400 lb-ft. The pair with this engine will be a 10-speed automatic.
Ford will also return a 5.0-liter V-8 and in the combination with the 10-gear auto gearbox as well. This V-8 unit will produce 395 hp and torque of 400 lb-ft.
The next level of performance will provide a 3.5-liter bi-turbo V-6. One version will make 375 hp and torque of 470 lb-ft. The Limited and Raptor models will boost the performance to 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque.
But if the diesel-powered truck is on one’s radar the Power Stroke Diesel will provide high torque and decent mileage. A 3.0-liter turbodiesel will pump 250 hp and torque of 440 lb-ft with the fuel economy of 30 mpg highway. The maximum tow rating with the diesel engine under the hood will be 11, 400 pounds.
What about the hybrid version?
Ford hasn’t revealed more than the place where it is going to build the hybrid version. The light-duty truck should adopt the similar setup as the next Mustang hybrid. It will likely be the standard hybrid system with the petrol engine and transmission aided by the electric motor between them. The system will provide the power and efficiency bump but we should not expect significant mileage upgrade.
2020 Ford F-150: Design
Ford won’t change much from the visual perspective on the next 2020 Ford F-150. The new color and wheel options will appear while the same styling and shape will continue until the next redesign.
The hybrid version won’t also look much different from what we already see in the current versions. Subtle details like the unique badging, inserts and wheels will make it distinct among other versions.
The light-duty Ford will also continue with the same interior design. The firm will offer a number of trim options with the unique level of the refinement and sophistication. The quality of materials and available equipment will gradually grow with each upper trim as well as the price.
Ford will offer the vinyl, cloth and different leather options. There will be wheel options ranging from 17-inch to 22 inches. The heated and ventilated seats will also be available as well as the multi-contour seat options. The latest Sync infotainment platform will also be there combined with the navigation, premium sound system and more.
Ford will also arm the best-selling truck with the number of the advanced safety equipment. The model will offer adaptive cruise control, lane control, blind-spot monitors, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, surround vision cameras, etc. More advanced safety systems should become available in lower grades with the arrival of the new model year.
2020 Ford F-150: Arrival, Price
The 2020 Ford F-150 will hit the showrooms in late 2019. The hybrid version will likely follow sometime in 2020. The price range will again start below $30k while more options and premium features will launch the price up fast.
