General Motors has been busy with redesigning full-size truck models and we saw recently the heavy-duty GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado following the redesigned light-duty versions for the 2019 model year. But there has been news in the mid-size segment as well and reintroduction of the Ford Ranger infused fresh blood to the class and Jeep Gladiator is also new contender there. The Toyota Tacoma benefits also form the mid-cycle update and Nissan Frontier should appear all-new in the new future.
The duo of the GM mid-seizers has also been expected to get some upgrades for the 2020 model year but the latest reports don’t promise much. The next Chevy Colorado won’t bring notable styling, interior or mechanical upgrades and changes will be limited to some equipment and packages reorganization. The same we should expect from the next GMC Canyon.
The Canyon will return in the same body styles and trim options and there will be the same engine choices to choose from. Those who want to get the most from this truck should pick the 2020 GMC Canyon Denali which guarantees unique appearance and best of the comfort and equipment features.
2020 GMC Canyon Denali: Design
As the things now stand, the next Canyon will stay pretty much the same as the current version despite many expected similar styling upgrades as on the newest GMC Sierra 1500 followed with the revised interior design and equipment.
So, the 2020 GMC Canyon Denali will appear in the same suite again and there won’t be significant upgrades until the approaching redesign.
The Canyon Denali will again get Signature Denali Style grille combined with projector headlights with LED accents. The chrome will be dominating trim element used on the grille, for lights bezels, door handles, mirror caps, assist steps, wheels, etc. The model will use 20-inch multi-spoke, ultra -bright aluminum wheels.
The interior of the Canyon Denali will also appear with the familiar, premium features and stylish design.
The model will use premium leather upholstery with contrasting stitching and soft-touch materials on the dash. There will also be details like the Denali logo on headrests, floor mats with surge edge, unique trim pieces, etc.
Driver and Passengers will also enjoy in the comfortable, power, heated and ventilated front seats. There will also be automatic climate control, navigation, premium Bose sound system, heated steering wheel, keyless entry and start, wireless charging and more. The up-to-date infotainment platform with an 8-inch center display will also be the part of the deal.
The safety measures will include some advanced systems like lane departure warning, forward collision warning, rear park assist, and tire pressure monitoring.
2020 GMC Canyon Denali: Performance
There are no signs that GMC will offer new engine options with the next Canyon version. The 2020 GMC Canyon Denali should also be available with the same powertrain options.
The standard engine will again be a 3.6-liter V-6 paired with the 8-speed automatic transmission. The engine uses Active Fuel Management, Variable Valve Timing and Direct Fuel injection for better power and efficiency optimization. With this engine under the hood, buyers can count on 308 horsepower and torque of 275 pound-feet. The model comes with two- and four-wheel drive including automatic locking rear differential and Autotrac 2-speed transfer case. The four-wheel drive should manage 17 mpg city and 24 mpg highway. The rear-wheel-drive driven Canyon should reach 18 miles per gallon in city ride or 25 miles on the highway.
The Denali trim can optionally be equipped with the proven 2.8-liter Duramax four-cylinder turbodiesel engine. This unit works in the combination with the six-speed automatic transmission. The power delivery is 181 hp and peak torque of 369 pound-feet. The four-wheel drive, Duramax-powered Denali version should return 20 mpg city while managing 28 mpg on the highways.
As for the towing capability, with the standard V-6 petrol engine under the hood, the Denali trimmed Canyon will allow up to 7, 000 pounds. With the Duramax diesel equipped the towing limit will be 7, 700 pounds.
2020 GMC Canyon Denali: Release, Price
The 2020 GMC Canyon Denali should appear at dealers in the last quarter of the year. The price should not change much. With the standard equipment, the Canyon Denali should cost around $40, 000.
