2020 GMC Canyon Diesel: Changes, Specs, Price

Despite it has been reported previously that 2020 GMC Canyon and corporate twin Chevy Colorado could get some styling and mechanical upgrades alongside the usual equipment reorganization, it turned out that there will be just a few changes for the new model year. The Canyon gets new locking-tailgate and standard tire-fill alert. There are also revisions in the standard/optional equipment grouping and changes in the availability of the safety features. GMC updated also the infotainment system. Unfortunately, the new Sierra-inspired style updates or turbocharged unit won’t be the part of the 2020 version as some reports suggested earlier.

Still, the GMC Sierra remains the most comfortable and luxurious, mid-size truck on the roads in the US and a long range of configuration options and powertrain choices will satisfy the demands of most buyers. For the maximum towing capability, the 2020 GMC Canyon Diesel with reliable and efficient Duramax turbocharged engine will be required. The diesel mills proliferated also in the full-size segment while GM’s mid-size duo has long been known for their diesel unit.

The 2020 Canyon Diesel should again be available as the costly option in the SLE and upper trims. The diesel unit will again be in the pair with six-speed automatic transmission and capable of towing 7, 700 pounds with good fuel efficiency.

2020 GMC Canyon Diesel : Design

The GMC Canyon hasn’t changed visually for the 2020 model. The reports that predicted refreshed styling inspired by the changes on the redesigned, full-size Sierra proved unreliable. The model continues with the same styling elements which beginning to feel outdated.

The GMC will remain easily recognizable thanks to the massive, signature grille and squared-off fender flares. The model will change the style of the grille and dial between body-color bumpers or chrome treatment depending on the version. The Denali trim will have unique chrome grille and body elements while the All Terrain package will add knobby, all-terrain tires, skid plates and more. The SLE will have 17-inch wheels, chrome grille and body-color bumpers. The SLT will also come with chrome grille and larger 18-inch wheels. The Denali will get attention with the large 20-inch wheels.

Interior, equipment:

The interior of the 2020 Canyon remains the same as well and there will be just changes in the availability of some equipment.

Depending on the trim level the model will switch from the cloth to more premium upholstery and leather treated interior. The dash design remains the same and every diesel-powered Canyon will include the new 8-inch-touchscreen-based infotainment system. Heated seats will also be available in the SLE and upper grades and Denali version will also provide ventilation function for the seats.

With the diesel engine under the hood, the Canyon will also offer Driver Alert package which includes forward collision alert and lane departure warning but there is no automatic emergency braking yet.

Buyers who are ready to pay additional money for the 2.8-liter Duramax turbocharged 4-cylinder engine will get the most capable and efficient version of the truck. GM hasn’t upgraded the Duramax unit for the new model year and it continues to deliver 181 hp and peak torque of 369 pound-feet available from 2000 rpm. The transmission of the choice, in this case, remains a six-speed automatic unit.

The 2020 GMC Canyon Diesel will again be available in either two-or four-wheel-drive configuration. The All Terrain package will add all-terrain tires, underbody protection, rear locking differential, an off-road-tuned suspension, and hill descent control transforming the truck into the off-road-ready machine.

The diesel-powered Canyon will also allow the best-towing in the range with the limit at 7, 700 pounds. Buyers who paid more for the diesel engine will also get best-possible fuel economy from this truck with 20 mpg city and 30 mpg highway with the power routed on two wheels only. With the power transferred to all wheels, the fuel economy will drop to 19 mpg city and 28 highways.

2020 GMC Canyon Diesel: Release, Price

The 2020 Canyon Diesel and other versions will be available this fall. The Duramax diesel unit will be accessible from the SLE trim with the extra cost. The most affordable, diesel-powered Canyon should stay $38, 800. Picking the Denali version with the diesel unit will need $45, 225.
