GM redesigned the upscale, light-duty GMC Sierra for the 2019 model year and the truck arrived on the upgraded chassis and with the new, more flashy styling backed up by the weight-saving measures. The premium truck comes also loaded with the latest tech and safety features and GM reworked familiar V-8 engines while added the new turbocharged option and should get the diesel unit soon. There are also an industry unique features including the carbon fiber bed and six-way tailgate. The trim range includes six options and the Denali version sits at the top of the range packed with the full set of the safety equipment, infotainment features, premium materials and upscale style details.
As for the 2020 model year, the Duramax diesel engine will join the range and will also be available in the Denali version. There won’t be other notable upgrades. The 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali will have unique exterior upgrades and wheels and premium interior. It will also come with the adaptive suspension dampers and will be available in the crew cab form only.
2020 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali: Powertrains
The light-duty Sierra underwent extensive structural and powertrain upgrades for the recent redesign. GM extended the engine range with the new turbocharged engine while made significant upgrades to the familiar V-8 units. The brand also promised the turbodiesel powertrain and it should arrive for the 2020 model year. The 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali will be also available with the oil burner.
General Motors hasn’t yet revealed the specs of the 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel but leaked details hint possible performance and fuel efficiency. As the details suggest, the inline-6 diesel should produce 282 hp and torque of 450 lb-ft. The Duramax engine will also be in pair with the 10-speed automatic transmission. If the leaked details turn out to be valid, the engine will outperform Ford’s Power Stroke turbodiesel which makes 240 hp and torque of 420 lb-ft. The fuel economy should, however, be on Ford’s side as reports claim 28 mpg highway for GM’s Duramax diesel engine while the Power Stroke engine delivers up to 30 mpg highway.
The light-duty Sierra Denali will come standard with the recently upgraded 6.2-liter V-8. The engine gained upgraded cylinder deactivation system for the last redesign and employs also the variable valve timing and direct injection. The engine makes 420 hp and torque of 450 lb-ft. The 10-speed automatic will also be in the combination with this engine.
The light-duty Sierra will also offer the 285 hp 4.3-liter V-6 and 355 hp 5.3-liter V-8 engines. The turbocharged gasoline engine with the 8-speed automatic transmission will also be an available option.
The Denali trim will also equip the adaptive shocks providing finer ride comfort.
2020 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali: Design
Form the visual point of view and structurally, the 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali will remain the same as the redesigned 2019 version.
The model will benefit from the extensive structural and visual upgrades from the recent redesign and it will add Denali exclusive styling elements and details to improve the impression further. The prominent Denali signature grille will dominate on the front side and come in the combination with the body-color front and rear bumpers. The 20-inch aluminum polished wheels will be standard with an available 22-inch option. The truck will also add to its presence with plenty of chrome details used on the grille, mirror caps, window moldings, door handles, etc.
The Denali version will also offer the six-way tailgate and MultiPro side steps. The LED signature lights will also add to the looks.
Inside the cabin, the Denali version will maximize the use of comfort and tech features. The attention will get an open-pore ash wood and brushed aluminum pieces. The truck will also employ the 10-way power, heated and ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats. The perforated leather upholstery will also improve the ambient as well as available convenience and tech features.
The truck will use dual-zone climate control, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, navigation, heated steering wheel, premium sound system, etc. The Denali trim will also be available with the full suite of the advanced safety systems. Bundled with adaptive cruise control and active lane assist will be forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking. The safety measures will also include front and rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, etc.

The 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali will go sale in late 2019. The cheapest Denali version should start at around $55, 000.
