With the refreshed Ford Ranger and Raptor version launched recently, reskinned and techier Mitsubishi Triton closing to the launch date, V-6-powered VW Amarok and unbreakable Toyota Hilux aimed at fulfilling customers’ demands, the successful Nissan Navara should also get a new round of upgrades in order to keep the pace with more sophisticated rivals. The third generation Navara arrived for the 2015 model year and in the current form, the model is a well-equipped pickup with more refined ride than most rivals. The truck gets also attention with its strong appearance and high comfort and interior quality. The platform of the model is also the base of the Mercedes X-Class and Renault Alaskan.
The newest Navara can be had in a diverse range of body shapes and styles and several trim options provide the level of comfort and sophistication for everyone. Nissan launched also several special edition versions recently to keep attention on the model but the next 2020 Nissan Navara should come with more substantial upgrades.
As the recent reports suggest, the 2020 model should benefit from the mid-cycle update but there are no spy phots or confirmation from Nissan to support the claims. The changes should, however, include the revised exterior styling and interior combined with the upgraded tech and safety features and the addition of new ones. Some modifications are also expected in the mechanical segment but the power options should remain.
2020 Nissan Navara: Design
The 2020 Nissan Navara is expected to come with no major structure upgrades and will also stay in same size and shape. The current generation Navara is actually based on the modified chassis and drive system of the previous gestation version but the proven underpinning is also used on the Mercedes X-Class. Still, Nissan will likely do some fine chassis and suspension tuning in order to improve the model’s already refined handling and ride quality.
The new Navara should also come with the refreshed visual identity but the changes are not expected to be as extensive as on the reskinned Mitsubishi Triton. The updated model should get revised front- and rear-end styling with the availability of the new wheel and body color options.
The model’s tough SUV-like styling should get a new version of the V-motion grille combined with the modernized headlights. The front bumper will also get altered design as well as the rear section and bumper and taillights.
Inside the cabin, the refreshed version should bring fresh material options and upgraded comfort and tech features. The crossover style-inspired interior will provide long ride comfort and modern tech features.
The model will get an updated infotainment system with improved connectivity features and different versions deepening on the trim level. The list of the equipment will start with the hard-finish interior with air conditioning while upper grades will add more sophistication. More expensive versions will get dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and start, Nissan Connect system, DAB, chrome details, side steps, etc. The truck will also provide high-comfort features like the leather upholstery, heated seats and more.
The brand will also equip the model with the modern safety gear including parking sensors, automatic emergency braking, surround view monitoring and there should be more safety enhancements.
2020 Nissan Navara: Powertrains
The 2020 Nissan Navara will remain among the most refined trucks in the class regarding the ride quality and handling thanks to the proved chassis and suspension setup. Nissan could improve the drive quality and comfort with further underpinning tweaks.
The model will again rely on the smooth and refined turbodiesel engine available with single or two turbos. The engine could get some performance upgrades but the details are still unknown.
The current Navara uses a 2.3-liter dCi single-turbo four-cylinder engine with the output of 160 hp and torque of 403 Nm. Equipped with two turbos, the engine produces 190 hp and torque of 450 Nm. Nissan will combine these engine options with the 7-speed automatic transmission.
The Nissan Navara will allow around 1, 200 kg of the payload in some configurations and will pull trailers with towing capacity up to 3, 500. With available selectable, four-wheel drive with low range and electronic rear differential, the Navara will also provide adequate off-road ability.
2020 Nissan Navara: Release, Price
The new 2020 Nissan Navara should reveal more details closer to the launch date later in the year. With the expected changes, the model should cost slightly more.
