Ford introduced the redesigned fourteenth-generation F-150 pickup truck for the 2021 model year with evolutionary styling and in-cab design changes but the Blue Oval brand claims that 92% of its components are new. The newest F-150 goes also on sale with the upgraded tech and safety features. Ford added also a new, hybrid powertrain and the all-electric version is also in the works. However, the zero-emission F-150 truck should arrive in the mid-2022 likely as the 2023 version while the 2022 Ford F-150 should add the Raptor trim to the current list of six equipment groups.
The new Raptor version comes after a year of hiatus and should respond to the introduction of the Ram Rebel TRX with the new mighty, supercharged V-8 engine and reconfigured suspension among other upgrades.
The current trim range will return with some changes in the equipment availability and with several extra options. The range will cover everything from the basic work-oriented truck to luxurious models. There will again be three cab styles and three cargo bed options. Buyers will also choose between petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrains.
2022 Ford F-150: Design
Following the recent, full-redesign of the best-selling Ford F-150 when the model arrived with 92% of its parts new and with evolutionary styling changes, the 2022 Ford F-150 will go on sale without any significant visual update. The new model year will, however, bring the hard-core Raptor version with the specific styling and new engine under the hood.
The current trim range of the newest F-150 will return with the same visual statement and with subtle styling modifications for each trim. Ford will introduce new color and wheel options for the current model range and there should also be new appearance packages. Ford will offer the half-ton truck with up to 11 grille styles in addition to the Raptor specific design. Buyers will also choose between various wheel styles and dimensions ranging from 17 to 22 inches.
The Raptor model will come with a unique grille style and tweaked headlights. The model has also a wider track and fender flares. Adding also to its appearance will also be massive, all-terrain tires, skid plates, tow hooks, decals, etc.
The cabin of the recently reworked Ford F-150 benefits also from evolutionary design changes as the model’s exterior. Ford upgraded also the truck’s in-cab technologies for the recent redesign and it comes loaded with the safety systems. The 2022 Ford F-150 will continue to live on the recent upgrades while the new Raptor model comes with unique upholstery and trim accents, sports seats, and modern tech features.
The truck goes on sale in three cab styles and with three cargo bed options. The Raptor version will come in the CrewCab style only.
At the equipment level, every Ford F-150 comes with at least an 8-inch touchscreen with Sync 4 system with wireless Apple Car Play and Android Auto support. Upper grades offer a large 12.0-inch landscape touchscreen. The base-level models employ durable vinyl upholstery while more premium versions use various leather patterns.
The best-selling truck relies also on modern safety technologies and every model gets automatic emergency braking and automatic headlights. Available will also be active lane control, reverse automatic braking, blind-spot monitoring, etc.
2022 Ford F-150: Performance
The 2022 Ford F-150 will rely on the same powertrain range as the current version in addition to the new supercharged V-8 powered Raptor model.
The base-level performance will again provide a 3.3-liter non-turbo V-6 engine. The next-level power will provide a 2.7-liter turbocharged V-6 unit. Buyers will also have a 5.0-liter V-8 petrol mill at disposal. A 3.5-liter turbo V-6 unit with 13, 000+ pounds of towing capability will also be available. Ford’s recently introduced 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 will also be on the equipment list.
Buyers can also opt for the hybrid setup that combines a 3.5-liter turbocharged V-6 engine, a 45-kW electric motor and a small lithium-ion battery pack. The hybrid version will travel 700 miles per tank and tow up to 12, 000 pounds.
The new Raptor version should come with the mighty 5.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine from the Shelby GT550. The model will challenge the new Ram Rebel TRX with power somewhere between 725 and 750 hp. The new hard-core F-150 off-roader will also switch to the coil-spring rear suspension.
The all-electric F-150 should arrive for the 2023 season with motors at each axle and 200+ miles per charge.
2022 Ford F-150: Release, Price
The 2022 Ford F-150 will go on sale in fall 2021. The redesigned Raptor version will debut next spring with the release date late 2021. The 2022 F-150 should start from about $29,000. The new Raptor version should again start in the mid-$50,000s.
